MARTIN SCOTT - PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Martin has worked at the Nottingham Shoulder & Elbow Unit with surgeons Professor WA Wallace, Mr. Lars Neumann & Mr. Paul Manning since 2000, and has been Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist since June 2004. The unit has an international reputation and performs “world first” surgery. Professor Wallace is a founder member and ex-president of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS), Mr. Lars Neumann is currently Vice-President of BESS. Martin and the surgeons and therapists are active internationally as teachers and lecturers.
As of 2006, Martin has worked with over 2000 shoulder problems covering a wide range of conditions and surgical rehabilitation; including:
- Over 500 subacromial decompressions (surgery for impingement).
- Over 200 shoulder replacements.
- Around 200 (unoperated) unstable or dislocating shoulders.
- Around 150 rotator cuff repairs.
- Over 100 Bankart repairs (for dislocated shoulders).
- Around 50 elbow replacements.
He has also worked with members of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning team, world champion kick boxers & body builders and also national team members for swimming, kayaking and taekwondo, amongst many other sports.
His special interests are evidence-based medicine, shoulder instability (dislocations) and rotator cuff disease (rotator cuff tears and impingement).
Martin Scott is a founder member of the International Board of Shoulder and Elbow Therapists (ICSET), assisting in the organisation of the 2nd ICSET in Bahia, Brazil 2007. He is chair of the third ICSET to be held in Edinburgh, UK 2010.
He currently practices at The Filshie Clinic on Monday and Thursday Evenings.
